About Suremploy

Suremploy is an Australian-based company specialising in online pre-employment assessments designed to make workplaces safer and more productive. As a smaller organization aiming to have a big impact on health and safety in Australian businesses, they serve large organisations in Australia and New Zealand. Suremploy’s assessments help ensure that only the right candidates are hired, reducing the risk of workplace injuries and create a positive impact on employees and businesses alike.Victor Ahipene is the General Manager.

Challenges finding an easy solution

As well as large and national and international clients, Suremploy had begun focussing on council and government spaces and faced growing demands to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability. This would come up when completing tenders for these clients and prospects. “We are just dipping our toes into the council and government space in Australia. And evidence of sustainability from suppliers is a lot more important for them to be able to see” Victor explains.

Suremploy looked into various options to enhance their business’ sustainability. Traditional carbon offsetting solutions were complex, opaque and required significant staff time and financial outlay. “A lot of the solutions we looked at had a lot of legwork, especially for a small team like ours,” said Victor.

Suremploy had also looked into engaging sustainability consultants. This research told them the initial cost for engaging the consulting firm was too high for them.. “We looked at consultancy training thing, the cost of even just signing up for that covered a large chunk of our annual CarbonInvoice subscription."

CarbonInvoice as the right solution

Victor saw a fellow business who’d signed up for CarbonInvoice and turned to them for a simple, efficient solution. The integration with Xero allowed them to measure and offset their carbon emissions without dedicating additional staff or resources. “We were able to connect our Xero account, get a report on what was needed, and implement it into our organization without hiring extra staff to handle complex processes,” Victor explained.

CarbonInvoice provided a streamlined platform that allowed Suremploy to quickly calculate their carbon footprint and begin funding the planting of native trees to compensate for their emissions.

Victor describes the effortless onboarding, ”I spent more time reading a competitors’ website walkthrough then it took me to integrate CarbonInvoice into our company. Such an awesome solution we are very happy with!”

The Suremploy team have leveraged the CarbonInvoice Sharing Library and their Positive Business Certification to describe their sustainability action through CarbonInvoice. ”To be able to have those prebuilt custom templates, highlighting the impact that you are having really helps when filling out lengthy tender docs”, says Victor.

Victor sees reinforcing benefits “It's this double benefit of we're doing good in the world, and it's also making our life easier to generate more business, which in turn will then generate more good in the world.”

Since February 2023 Suremploy has been partnered with CarbonInvoice. They’ve funded over 1600 trees - see their progress here.

How Suremploy is benefiting

Since adopting CarbonInvoice, Suremploy has seen significant benefits, internally and externally:

Meeting government and council sustainability contracts has been a key benefit. In 2023 Suremploy entered the government tender space, and having CarbonInvoice helped them meet sustainability requirements more easily. Victor explained, “We would have struggled to complete some of these [tender response] sections without CarbonInvoice.”

Client reporting and brand enhancement has been a benefit - Suremploy has integrated the sustainability reports from CarbonInvoice into their client reporting throughout the year and at year end. “We’re using the information to strengthen our reports, showing clients that they are having an impact,”

Victor said this has helped Suremploy differentiate themselves in the competitive health and safety market. Victor and the team feel great about their action ”So it's like we are actually putting the money from our organisation straight into something which has a real world positive impact”.

"We would have been really struggling to fill out some of these sections without CarbonInvoice. It’s not just about doing good in the world; it’s also making our life easier when it comes to winning government and council contracts."
